GSDI 10 Travel Support Grants
The locations of GSDI Conferences are moved around the world in order to allow people from different regions of the globe to attend a major international geospatial conference in their own region at minimal expense. If you would like to receive consideration for an additional grant to further reduce your registration fee or to help with travel expenses, please apply for a partial Conference Support Grant by providing the information requested below. Please supply this information on or before November 1, 2007.
The funds to be distributed through this program are limited and were donated to the Developing Nations Fund to be used explicitly to support individuals from low and very low income nations.
Criteria for Assessing Travel Support Applications
While none of the following is absolutely required, positive considerations in assessing applications for additional funding will consider:
- whether a paper, abstract or poster submission by the applicant has been accepted by the conference,
- stature and authoritative position of the candidate,
- low per capita income ranking of the nation in which the applicant resides,
- an emphasis for this conference on those from the Caribbean as well as Central and South America,
- disciplinary and sector (private, government, non-profit) representation,
- links of the applicant to emergent or developing SDI projects,
- encouragement of early career scholars and student representation, and
- other such factors as the evaluation team deems appropriate.
Awards will be made by wire transfer to the bank account of the recipient or by cash at the conference. Typically no cash award will be made until after a recipient has officially registered for the conference and paid the required conference registration fee. In order to cover out of pocket costs, conference registration fees will not be waived except under very unusual circumstances.
