Airport - Travel Information

Travel to and from Santiago, Chile

Participants must make their own travel arrangements to and from Santiago. It is recommended to confirm your return trip on arriving at Santiago in order to ensure your flight on the date required.

GSDI Booth at the Airport

During the days on which most conference attendees arrive, there will be a small presence of GSDI-9 at the airport of Santiago to welcome all those arriving to participate in or attend GSDI-9 in any capacity, as well as their accompanying partners. Personnel working for GSDI-9 at a small booth there will provide a smooth transition from flight to hotel and conference venue, with guidance when needed.

Insurance

Participants are advised to arrange their own individual medical, travel and personal effects insurance while attending the Meetings.

Sanitary controls

Animal and vegetable products may only enter the country with the due prior authorization of the agriculture and livestock organization (Servicio Agrícola y Ganadero).

Health requirements

The International Travel and Health Paper (1997) of the Panamerican Health Office states that visitors to Chile do not require any vaccinations. However, visitors are recommended to take out a health insurance to cover them during their stay.

Airport Taxes and Customs

Certain travellers will need to pay a reciprocity tax on arrival in Chile if they are citizens from the United States (who pay 100 US dollars), from Canada (US$ 55), Australia (US$ 30), and Mexico (US$ 15). The receipt is valid until the expiration of your passport. This tax is applied to countries that charge Chilean nationals a fee to process visas.

On departing from Chile through Santiago’s main airport, all travellers (any nationality) should pay an airport tax of US$ 26, or the equivalent in CHP (Chilean pesos), except for flights of less than 500 km; in this case it is 4,671 CHP. On domestic flights airport tax is normally included in the airline ticket.

Travelers must pass through customs inspection when entering the country. If you are carrying only personal items you shouldn’t have any problems, but don’t bring:
- Fruits, seeds, vegetables or non-processed animal products.
- Firearms, ammunition or explosives.
- Illegal drugs.
