Airport Taxes and Customs
Certain
travellers will need to pay a reciprocity
tax on arrival in Chile if they are citizens
from the United States (who pay 100 US
dollars), from Canada (US$ 55), Australia
(US$ 30), and Mexico (US$ 15). The receipt
is valid until the expiration of your
passport. This tax is applied to countries
that charge Chilean nationals a fee to
process visas.
On
departing from Chile through Santiago’s
main airport, all travellers (any nationality)
should pay an airport tax of US$ 26, or
the equivalent in CHP (Chilean pesos),
except for flights of less than 500 km;
in this case it is 4,671 CHP. On domestic
flights airport tax is normally included
in the airline ticket.
Travelers must pass through customs inspection
when entering the country. If you are
carrying only personal items you shouldn’t
have any problems, but don’t bring:
- Fruits, seeds, vegetables or non-processed
animal products.
- Firearms, ammunition or explosives.
- Illegal drugs.
