GOING BEYOND DATA ACCESS

 

Policy makers address the present but technological progress moves ahead and renders the policy irrelevant. Article highlighted various aspects of geospatial policies and architecture of an enabling framework

Prof. Abbas Rajabifard scholarly contributed on varying aspects of geospatial policies for an article “Going beyond data access” published in GIS Development June 2010. He emphasized on strong policy development through partnership between government, private sector and academia for a framework of a national spatial data infrastructure that permits horizontal and vertical sharing of information. He highlights the benefits to national wealth through creation of multiple business and application against benefits by spatial data sale and favours a free or low cost approach supported by a clear legal framework. There is also a strong need to build capacity not only at a technical level, but also at a wider governmental and societal level .It is architecture of an enabling policy framework which required national approach to management of spatial data.
