Minutes of the RDA Geospatial IG meeting 22 September 2014

This article presents the minutes of the Geospatial Interest Group’s meeting held in Amsterdam on the 22 September 2014 from 13:30 to 15:00 at RDA’s 4th plenary meeting. The meeting attracted more than 25 participants with diverse backgrounds during which five presentations – including the introduction by the chair – were given, followed by a Q&A.

UN General Assembly urges sharing of geospatial data

The science that supports the precise pinpointing of people and places should be shared more widely, according to the United Nations General Assembly as it adopted its first resolution recognizing the importance of a globally-coordinated approach to geodesy – the discipline focused on accurately measuring the shape, rotation and gravitational field of planet Earth.

Geodesy plays an increasing role in people’s lives, from finding disaster victims to finding directions using a smart phone.

GSDI Small Grants Program Update – February 2015

In 2014, the GSDI Association secured funding for four Small Grants projects from GeoConnections, a national collaborative initiative led by GSDI Association member Natural Resources Canada. GeoConnections supports the integration and use of the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI), an on-line resource that improves the sharing, access and use of open geospatial information. The CGDI helps decision-makers from all levels of government, the private sector, non-government organizations and academia make better decisions on social, economic and environmental priorities.
